6 In that day he will be your sure foundation, providing a rich store of salvation, wisdom, and knowledge. The fear of the LORD is the key to this treasure.
It made me consider what I considered my foundation. Am I depending upon God for everything, or do I depend upon myself for most things? God will provide a rich treasure of what’s important: salvation, wisdom and knowledge. And what’s the key to this treasure?
The fear of the Lord.
To me, fearing God means to respect and obey Him, or to understand His ways. For example, people with perpetual sins don’t have much fear of God. If they truly feared God in a healthy way, then they would do everything they could to deal with the issue – through confession to a brother, counseling, accountability, etc.
I don’t think it means living in fear, each moment thinking that God may squash you like a bug for doing something wrong. That is not His way. His way is merciful and has restoration and healing as the end result. Bug squashing has only death as the end result.
What does it mean to you when you hear “the fear of the Lord?” Do you fear the Lord?
