As with all the chapters in the book of Proverbs, it is difficult to focus on a single bit of wisdom. As I read today’s chapter, however, verses having to do with profit and earning wages somehow jumped out at me:
4 An empty stable stays clean, but no income comes from an empty stable.
23 Work brings profit, but mere talk leads to poverty!
24 Wealth is a crown for the wise; the effort of fools yields only folly.
Of course, the writer of Proverbs, Solomon, was a very wise and very wealthy man. How amazing is it that God left us such treasure in which to learn from.
These verses remind me that it requires dedication an commitment to earn a living. One simply can’t sit around and wait for money to drop in their lap. However, we also need to work smart. Verse 23 reminds me that we need to be wise with our money and in our jobs. Folly is the reward of fools.
Thank You, Lord for Your Word. Help us to learn wisdom as we go through the book of Proverbs together. -amen
