Some background from my study Bible:
Paul wrote 2 Thes less than a year after he had written 1Thes. … The good news was that the Thessalonians were continuing to grow in their faith, but the bad news was that false teachings about Christ’s return were spreading, leading many to quit their jobs and wait for the end of the world.
So Paul wrote them again.
While the purpose of the first leter was to comfort the Thessalonians with the assurance of Christ’s second coming, the purpose of this letter is to correct false teaching about the second coming.
This first chapter is Paul’s attempt to show the Thessalonians how God will punish those who persecute them.
I liked the following:
11 And so we keep on praying for you, that our God will make you worthy of the life to which he called you. And we pray that God, by his power, will fulfill all your good intentions and faithful deeds.
The above verse is from the NLT online at crosswalk.com. My actual NLT says it this way:
11 So we keep on praying for you, asking our God to enable you to live a life worthy of his call. May he give you the power to accomplish all the good things your faith prompts you to do.
In the meantime, remember to keep praying for each other!
