Living in Florida, you don’t experience the mountains much (unless you visit Disney World!). My home is firmly seated on ground that is about 5′ above sea level. The air is rich and the smell of the ocean is in the air.
Yet, I remember my first sight of mountains. My family took a road trip (remember those?) out west and being in a town in the valley with mountains surrounding you on all sides. It just does something to you. I remember feeling so small, yet so peaceful. It was a beautiful spectacle for a young boy.
Today, when I read Psalms 125, I was reminded of that peaceful feeling of being surrounded by mountains and I had to smile:
1 Those who trust in the Lord are like Mount Zion, which cannot be shaken but endures forever. 2 As the mountains surround Jerusalem, so the Lord surrounds his people both now and forevermore. 3 The scepter of the wicked will not remain over the land allotted to the righteous, for then the righteous might use their hands to do evil.
4 Do good, O Lord, to those who are good, to those who are upright in heart. 5 But those who turn to crooked ways the Lord will banish with the evildoers. Peace be upon Israel.
Peace be upon you today, if you know my Jesus. He surrounds you now and forevermore.
grace & peace,
